Aadhaar
The Unique Identification Authority (Aadhaar) of India (UIDAI) has conveyed that December 14 does not stand as the ultimate deadline for effecting alterations in the address and sundry particulars within the Aadhaar domain (Aadhaar). Akshaya centers in the state of Kerala, establishments facilitating an array of online services, find themselves inundated with a significant influx of individuals endeavoring to modify their Aadhaar particulars under the impression that December 14 marks the cut-off date for such revisions. Regrettably, this surge has had consequential repercussions on other concurrent activities at the Akshaya centers.
In their official communication, UIDAI has explicitly elucidated that December 14 marks the conclusive date for availing oneself of this service sans any charge on the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal. However, the continued provision of Aadhaar-related services at Akshaya centers will henceforth incur a fee amounting to Rs 50. Intriguingly, the statement released by UIDAI remains silent on whether alterations to Aadhaar via the ‘My Aadhaar’ portal will be subjected to modifications post the aforementioned date of December 14.
The necessity of perpetual Aadhaar data updates
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) persistently advocates the imperative of maintaining up-to-date Aadhaar details, particularly for those who have not engaged in this vital activity within the preceding decade. This concerted effort is a strategic measure to forestall any potential malfeasance linked to Aadhaar.
In a notable development, UIDAI has once again protracted the temporal window for cost-free Aadhaar updates, granting an additional three months, thereby shifting the previous deadline from December 14 to March 14, 2023. Noteworthy is the fact that this cost-free service exclusively applies to transactions conducted through the myAadhaar portal. Contrarily, those seeking this service at physical Aadhaar centers are subject to a nominal fee of *50, mirroring the antecedent fee structure.
As per an official memorandum disclosed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), “In response to the favorable resonance from the populace, a resolution has been reached to prolong the accessibility period for an additional three months, spanning from 15.12.2023 to 14.03.2024. Consequently, the service for the modification of documents will persist in its gratuitous nature through the myAadhaar portal.”
UIDAI has persistently advocated for residents to electronically submit evidence substantiating their identity and residence (Pol/POA) to reaffirm the accuracy of their demographic particulars, particularly in cases where Aadhaar documentation has remained unaltered for a decade. Should there arise a necessity to modify demographic specifics such as Name, Date of Birth, Address, and the like, denizens have the option to utilize the web-based updating service or choose to attend the nearest Aadhaar center.
“Kindly ensure the continued precision of your demographic data by updating your Aadhaar,” conveyed UIDAI through their official website. Online modifiable datasets encompass personal details like name, address, date of birth, gender, contact number, and email address. Notably, the revision of information pertaining to visual records, iris scans, or other biometric data is exclusively feasible at physical Aadhaar centers.
